In which Bean and I are both indifferent

As I noticed my post count nearing 200, I started brainstorming fun ideas to mark the occasion. A contest? A giveway? A special post? But the creativity wouldn't come, and although the desire is there, I can't afford to buy anything for a decent giveaway right now. I guess I'm not in a celebratory mood at the moment. So here I am instead, saying...

This is my 200th post.

Yippee.

...

That's all I got.

Speaking of indifference, Bean and I went blueberry picking on Friday with the MOMS Club. The temperature had gone down from scorching to sweltering, so we decided to venture outside.

When we are at home, Bean is all over the place. He's walking here and there, he's talking nonstop, he's laughing at some unknown joke. But whenever we attend organized events (which is 4-5 times a week), he clams up and clings to his mommy. Not that I don't appreciate the cuddles, but I'm concerned that he's practically scowling in all the pictures. Which all but the last were taken during the 45 seconds he would actually let me put him down.

He thought the blueberries tasted gross, and he was more interested in dumping out the bucket ("uh-oh!") and trying to put the berries back on the trees. We ended up with so few in our bucket that the farm didn't even charge us for them. I only like blueberries if they are baked into a muffin -- with a crumby top, too, please -- so I was okay with that. But it's still important for my sanity for us to get out and about, and I think he'll eventually come around to my attempts at forced socialization, so we keep trying.

And if you'll permit me a bit of randomness, I'm feeling pretty cool (don't laugh!) and wanted to share why. So DH and I finally restored the flow to our Netflix queue by watching "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button." Which wasn't as bad as I had feared, actually. I absolutely bawled at the end, but I'm fairly sure it was in a good way. I mean, heartbreaking but tender, know what I mean? Anyway, we decided to finally dive into the television series "Twin Peaks," which we've been really curious about. It was filmed not too far from Seattle, certainly part of the draw for us.

We were so excited when we turned it on and immediately recognized much of the scenery! It was filmed largely in Snoqualmie and North Bend, and as I'm sure you'll remember, just last month we visited Snoqualmie Falls.

Here is a picture of the Great Northern Hotel from "Twin Peaks," borrowed from a really neat web site called In Twin Peaks.

It's actually called the Salish Lodge & Spa (at least today). Here are two pictures we took last month, when visiting the falls. It doesn't have the same eerie mood, but I think you'll recognize it anyway.

Pretty. Damn. Sweet.

And the show so far... WOW!

For a final bit of randomness, here is Bean in his Gro Baby cloth diaper that my mom got for him. I absolutely love the way it goes on, the aplix (velcro) part is a bit different than other diapers, and it's way cool. I thought I would put the good word out there for the rest of you nuts who shun the 'sposies.

Good move on Twin Peaks. Just remember that the murder of Laura Palmer is totally a MacGuffin. The show also has the distinction of being the only thing directed by David Lynch that makes any sense (and this pushes it at times). Muholland Drive is intelligible with a lot of work (and worth it), but the other stuff is just beyond weird--well, Blue Velvet is ok, but Inland Empire, Lost Highway, Eraserhead...

I am LOVING Twin Peaks right now. I just started the second season and have to force myself to stop watching and go to bed.

And once I finish it, I might watch Veronica Mars again because it's very similar to Peaks, just with better clothes and hair. (If you haven't seen Veronica Mars, it really should be next in your queue. It is absolutely phenomenal.)

Congratulations on your 200th post! YAY!

I have not seen that movie yet because I thought I would not like it but maybe now I will give it a try.

Oooh, I was a very big Twin Peaks fan back when it was on television. I should rent the series and rewatch it.

Congratulations on 200 posts!

I love how the kiddos discover their world. My daughter was totally not interested in picking raspberries at my friend's house three weeks ago. She'd even spit out the delicious and sweet raspberries I'd pick and give to her. Then maybe one week later we got a pint of raspberries in our CSA basket. Perhaps the fact that they came from farmers excited her. Suddenly she wouldn't stop eating raspberries. My husband and I had to fight her for them! And just this morning she nearly ate all the berries off the top of my "Skagit Valley berry" waffle. Go figure.

Congrats on the 200th post! I so miss Snoqualmie Falls, and I actually used to go to church in North Bend.

Hey... you might want to check my blog in the next couple of days. I'm planning a giveaway involving the Hershey cookbook I mentioned yesterday. :)

WOOHOOO 200 posts! Nice work!

I remember watching Twin Peaks and recognizing all the places and scenery. Great show! I'm sure Bean will warm up, soon. Nae never did that, but Zilla did. Still does sometimes. Might be a boy thing?

200 posts! Congratulations, what an excellent accomplishment. I know why the Bean gets quiet and clingy when you guys are in a group. It's because you're so awesome he want you all to himself! Ha ha ha ha.

Twin peaks is indeed great. We watched the series after moving to Seattle in 2000. BUT HERE IS AN IMPORTANT WARNING. You need to make sure that you watch the original American pilot episode and NOT the international episode. The international episode was intended as a stand alone movie and reveals spoilers that in the TV series are the very things that build mystery to the ending. MrBeep was furious when we watched on the VHS version (they didn't have the original American pilot released at the time.) On the new DVD collection available on Netflix, both options on the first disc.

Congrats on your 200th!!!

Bean looks sweet, even when scowling. Is he shy with strangers, or he does that anytime, anybody other than you and his dad are around?

I won't rate that behaviour unusual though.

Happy 200th.

I am having a hard time getting Champ out of my arms these days too. Sounds like you guys go out to socialise quite a lot though, so I am sure it is just a stage (rather than him being so isolated from other people that he gets scared when he realises there are more than you 3 people in the world).

Congrats on your 200th post! I second the Yippee!!!

My very talkative daughter can be extremely clingy when meeting new people (or even people she knows but doesn't see frequently). It's really hard to take when you're trying to get them to do something that should be fun and all they want is for you to hold them...

I watched the international version of the pilot of Twin Peaks the first time. I didn't really get it, and thought that it was all solved after the first episode! I don't think it's a spoiler at all unless you know how it's going to end; even then, what you see in the international version isn't really the whole story of the murder of Laura Palmer.

Besides, the murder is irrelevant. As a whodunit murder mystery, it's mediocre. It's all about the characters.

Congrats on your 200th post! It's been fun to get to read and catch up on what's going on with you guys!

We just had Tatum's 2nd B-Day party and I don't think I got a single picture of her smiling either. I could tell she was having fun but it was in more an awed, serious way.

You don't look a day over 199. Promise.
I thought I saw a big hullabaloo about a bloggie face lift? Where? It looks the same to me. Who is this April and why isn't she working harder? (J/K April)

Bean is just the beat all end all. And as hard as it may be for you at times, enjoy the times he sticks to you like the velcro on his cloth diapers. When he's a teen, he wont. Again, promise.

Hope all is well in your neck of the Peaks. Chat with you again soon!
